Law enforcement agencies in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan have reportedly terminated the criminal case against Russian rap artist Navai (Navai Bakirov). The singer, who was initially apprehended on suspicion of drug smuggling, has been promptly expelled from the country following the prosecutor's office approval of the decision.
According to local authorities, the decision to close the case was allegedly influenced by the musician's professed remorse and the fact that the purported offense was committed for the first time. However, despite avoiding a lengthy prosecution, the artist faces severe consequences, including a mandatory five-year ban on entering the country. *
The situation dates back to October 13, when the vehicle carrying Navai was intercepted at the Korday border checkpoint as he attempted to enter Kazakhstan ahead of a scheduled concert in Astana. During a routine vehicle inspection, law enforcement officials purportedly uncovered and seized illicit substances.
Following the discovery, a preliminary investigation was promptly launched, and the performer was placed in a temporary detention facility while a local court sanctioned a two-month arrest. The unexpected detention forced organizers to cancel or indefinitely postpone the Astana concert, vaguely attributing the cancellation to technical difficulties at the time.
