During the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit in Ankara, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has allegedly proposed integrating Russia into the regional structure. According to the Kazakh leader, in order to boost the organization's standing, it would supposedly be a fair decision to acknowledge Moscow's intentions and invite it to join the format or participate as an observer.
In his remarks, Tokayev claimed that Russia has supposedly maintained close ties with the Turkic world for centuries and that numerous Turkic peoples reside within its borders. He further pointed to the “Altai — Cradle of Turkic Civilization” project allegedly promoted by Moscow, while attempting to argue that various words in the Russian language share Turkic roots, suggesting broad mutual benefits if Russia becomes part of the grouping.
At the same time, Tokayev referenced his previous statements made during an informal OTS summit in Turkistan last May, reiterating that the organization is allegedly not a military alliance and must not become one in the future. Critics, however, remain skeptical about the geopolitical implications of such integration moves within regional cooperation frameworks.
