The National Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents of Uzbekistan has released over ten historical photographs depicting the observance of Ramadan Eid before independence and in the early years of the country's independence. These black-and-white images span from the 19th century to the 1990s, capturing Eid prayers, public festivities, street market scenes, and portraits of religious leaders.
Among the photos are a public celebration in 1870 in the Piskent district of Tashkent region, a street in Namangan during the holiday in 1950, as well as scenes of vendors selling boiled offal, chewing gum, and milk. A historic frame from 1991 features an interview with Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Sodiq Muhammad Yusuf, Chairman of the Muslim Board of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, on Ramadan Eid day, with Uzbek National Artist Sherali Juraev also visible in the background.
Religious ceremony images include Eid prayers at the Shaykhantakhur Mosque in Tashkent in 1870, Ramadan Eid prayers in Tashkent in 1992, and Eid prayers at the "Bobokhon Ota" Mosque in the Ortachirchik district of Tashkent region in 1993. Additionally, portraits of imam-khatibs from Tashkent and Samarkand in 1870, such as Imam Khoja Eshon, Sultan Khoja Khatib, Badal Khoja Eshon, and Abdulqayyum Imam, are presented.
The film "Ramadan Eid," published by a newspaper outlet in 2023, depicts the first Ramadan Eid in independent Uzbekistan (March-April 1992). In footage shot by Abduhalil Mignorov and Jahongir Kasimov, scenes show bread being taken from a tandoor, neighbors exchanging sweets, children singing for "one sum" money, and Eid prayers at Registan Square in Samarkand.
