In Chirchiq city, Tashkent region, a video has circulated showing a driver narrowly missing a mother and child crossing at a pedestrian crossing. The footage indicates that the traffic light was red for vehicles at the time the pedestrians were crossing, clearly highlighting the driver's violation of traffic rules. Following the incident, officials from the Regional Road Safety Department took control of the situation, conducting search and investigative work, which led to the identification of the driver and vehicle involved in the violation.
The driver admitted fault, stating, "I passed without seeing the pedestrian, at the pedestrian crossing. I admit my guilt. But I didn't know about this. My situation turned out this way. I apologize, a thousand times sorry. I have repented." He also mentioned having children of his own and emphasized that if the pedestrians were in any distress, he could have been in a similar situation, adding, "Whatever they were going through, my heart would have been the same. I am a person just like them."
The driver's actions were assessed as a threat to pedestrian life, and an administrative protocol was formalized under Article 128-prim 10 of the Administrative Responsibility Code (Traffic Violation). The court found the driver guilty and imposed a penalty of a 2-year suspension of the right to drive vehicles and a fine of 25 times the basic calculation amount, equivalent to 10,300,000 soms. This fine is considered a severe punishment for breaching road safety regulations.
The incident is being widely covered to draw public attention to road safety issues and encourage responsible driving behavior. The Regional Road Safety Department officially announced the driver's punishment, demonstrating swift action in such cases. However, such events may also reveal shortcomings in road infrastructure and driver training, necessitating additional measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
