Authorities in Surxondaryo region have announced the amount of damage caused by an environmental incident in Boysun district. Compensation of over 8.5 billion soums has been calculated for the leakage of oil-containing liquid, which the responsible party must pay.

According to the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, the emergency release occurred at a well owned by the joint venture Surxan Gas Chemical Operating Company. Due to heavy rains on April 23, about 1.2 tons of contaminated liquid entered the Khongaronsoy canal.

The environmental inspection calculated the harm to the environment based on government regulations. The company now must compensate the budget with over 8.5 billion soums.

Currently, the consequences of the accident have been eliminated: the water has been cleaned of oil impurities. However, the investigation continues. After the inspection is completed, the materials will be transferred to law enforcement agencies for legal assessment.
