A prevention inspector in Chirchiq, Tashkent region, has been arrested on suspicion of taking a $2,700 bribe, according to the State Security Service (SSS).

The inspector allegedly received the money in February this year to cover up a case of bodily harm inflicted on a 32-year-old citizen by a criminal group led by a 36-year-old man. Of this amount, $1,000 was reportedly given to the victim earlier.

During an operation by the SSS Tashkent regional department, the inspector was caught red-handed while handing over an additional $300 to the victim.

A criminal case has been opened against him, and investigative actions are underway. Authorities are also taking measures to bring his colleague, allegedly involved in the illegal activities, to justice.

The SSS urged citizens to report similar violations via the short number 1520, guaranteeing the confidentiality of informants.

Earlier, two senior operational officers of the Main Internal Affairs Department in Tashkent were detained for demanding a $2,200 bribe from a citizen, promising not to prosecute a person caught with drugs.
