Several schools in Tashkent have begun installing 'smart' cameras to monitor student attendance. The move has sparked discussions on social media, prompting the Ministry of Preschool and School Education to issue an official statement.
According to the ministry, a joint regulation approved on September 18, 2025, requires that student attendance be recorded daily by homeroom teachers and subject teachers via the 'e-maktab' platform.
For unexcused absences, the school's inspector-psychologist sends official warning letters to parents, demanding that they ensure regular attendance. The letter warns that failure to comply may result in legal liability.
The ministry noted that if students are found to be consistently skipping classes, parents can be held accountable under Article 47 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility.
The 'smart' cameras are being installed on a trial basis in several schools in the Mirzo Ulugbek district of the capital, serving as an additional tool to streamline attendance monitoring.
The system is said to enable school administrators to track student participation in lessons, while also allowing parents to monitor their children's whereabouts and safety online.
