President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to stop the accident at the "25 Years of Independence" (M-25) gas field in Boysun during a meeting on February 27. He also emphasized the launch of a project to boost the economy of Surkhandarya region.

Chairman of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz JSC Abdugani Sanginov inspected the field on February 26 and plans cooperation with international companies, including China's CNPC and the US's Schlumberger, to address the accident. These companies are expected to propose advanced technologies to stabilize the situation.

The accident began on September 1, 2024, with a hydrogen sulfide leak and explosions at well 604, resulting in four fatalities and population evacuations. On March 27, 2025, a controlled release occurred at well 202, which was ignited, but a repeated explosion happened on May 5.
