President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to halt the accident at the "25 Years of Independence" (M-25) gas field in Boysun during a meeting on February 27. He stated, "We will stop the accident and launch a project that will give a strong impetus to the economy of Surkhandarya."

Chairman of the Board of JSC "Uzbekneftegaz" Abdugani Sanginov inspected the field on February 26. The company is collaborating with China's CNPC and US-based Schlumberger to stabilize the situation and eliminate the accident using advanced technologies.

The accident began on September 1, 2024, with a hydrogen sulfide leak at well 604. Several explosions followed, resulting in at least four fatalities. On March 27, 2025, a controlled release occurred at well 202, which was ignited. On May 5, a repeated explosion took place at well 202.
