Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. A large-scale technological transformation is beginning in Uzbekistan's maternal and child health protection system. According to Natalya Nadirkhanova, director of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health, an innovative information and communication technology service based on artificial intelligence and robotics will be established at the institution in 2026.
The past year 2025 laid the foundation for these changes. The center expanded international cooperation by signing memoranda with leading clinics in the USA, UAE, Switzerland, South Korea, and other countries. Over 80 doctors underwent advanced training abroad. Thanks to the development of medical tourism, assistance was provided to nearly 2,000 foreign citizens from 16 countries.
Special attention is paid to high-tech equipment. The Cell Saver blood preservation technology has been implemented in all regional branches of the center. The autologous blood transfusion device allows for the collection and purification of a patient's own blood lost during surgery for reinfusion. This minimizes complication risks and reduces dependence on donor supplies, which is critical for high-risk obstetric operations.
Artificial intelligence is already actively assisting doctors in diagnosis. Last year, using the RETINA.AI platform, screening was conducted on over 2,000 premature infants to detect retinopathy. The Spina bifida project has also been launched, utilizing neural networks to improve the accuracy of clinical decisions. Currently, these technologies are undergoing pilot testing in Tashkent, Khorezm, Samarkand, and Navoi regions.
As part of the Year of Mahalla Development, center specialists conduct mobile medical examinations. Identified diseases are treated on-site using high-tech surgical interventions, and in complex cases, patients are referred to regional or republican levels through an online consultation system, which has already been fully implemented in practice.
