Feruza Tukhtamurodova, a third-year biology student at Termez State Pedagogical Institute in Uzbekistan, has created an innovative device that allows for the extraction of scorpion venom without killing the scorpion.

According to Uzbekistan's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations, traditional methods of obtaining valuable scorpion venom result in the scorpion's death. Feruza's new device uses electrical stimulation to extract venom multiple times from the same scorpion. This reduces the shortage of biological material and opens new opportunities for the pharmaceutical industry.

Scorpion venom contains chlorotoxin, which can slow the growth of cancer cells. Additionally, neurotoxins in the venom may be used to treat nervous system diseases.

Reports indicate that scorpion venom costs up to $12,000 abroad and around $5,000 in Uzbekistan.
