Governor of Jizzakh region Ulugbek Mustafoyev stated at a meeting with the president on April 24 that the region has transitioned from an agrarian to an industrialized area over the past decade. He attributed this to infrastructure development and increased investment attractiveness.
“Dear President, thanks to the opportunities and conditions you created, Jizzakh region has turned from an agrarian into an industrial region over the last 10 years. This is primarily related to the enormous work done on electricity, gas, roads, water, and communications to improve infrastructure and investment appeal,” he said.
The governor noted that the share of industry in the gross regional product has exceeded 50% and is approaching 60%. “True, we have many shortcomings, much work to do. There are still many unused opportunities in industrial zones,” he added.
Jizzakh is becoming one of the country's automotive centers. A presentation of the new Kia brand will take place on April 27. Exports will begin this year, with a $15 million contract signed. Social media reports indicate that production of the Kia K3, manufactured by the South Korean corporation since 2023, has started in Uzbekistan.
The BYD enterprise in Jizzakh will begin exporting electric vehicles for the first time. “For the first time, our BYD enterprise will start exporting electric vehicles to Kazakhstan. We also plan to deliver cars to Termez and then to Afghanistan,” the governor emphasized. Authorities aim to develop industry not only in the regional center but also in remote districts.
In 2025, Uzbekistan produced 457,900 passenger cars, up 6.7% year-on-year. However, production of mass models — Cobalt, Damas, and Onix — declined. Chevrolet's market share fell to 83.2%, while output of Chinese and other brands increased several times. In the first quarter of 2026, 91,088 cars were sold, up 20.9% from the same period in 2025. BYD Uzbekistan Factory sold 7,799 cars in three months, raising its market share to 8.6%.
