Uzbekistan has taken the top spot globally in the growth rate of schools offering Korean language classes. According to Yonhap, 68 new educational institutions with Korean classes opened in the country over the past year, surpassing Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Brazil, and the United States.
The global interest in learning Korean is driven by the popularity of modern South Korean culture, including K-pop music and K-dramas, as well as the desire of young people to pursue higher education in South Korea. Government support programs play a significant role, providing funding for classes, supplying educational materials, and training teachers.
By the end of last year, Korean was taught in 2,700 foreign schools worldwide. Over the past four years, the total number of such institutions has grown by 54 percent, and the number of students learning the language has reached 236,000.
