The International Judo Federation (IJF) has relocated the Junior World Championships originally scheduled in Jordan. Tashkent has been chosen as the new host city. The decision is linked to the deteriorating military-political situation in the Middle East.
Initially planned to take place in Amman from October 22 to 25, the tournament will now be held in the Uzbek capital from November 19 to 22.
Amid the unstable situation in the Middle East, Tashkent is seen as a more stable and secure venue for the international event.
The IJF expressed gratitude to the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan and the country's authorities for their exceptional responsiveness and dedication in hosting the world championship.
"This approach reflects Uzbekistan's growing importance in the global judo community and confirms the country's ability to host major international tournaments at the highest level," the IJF statement said.
Uzbekistan has experience in organizing major judo competitions and possesses the necessary infrastructure for world-class events. Notably, Tashkent hosted the prestigious OTP Group Tashkent Grand Slam 2026 judo tournament from February 27 to March 1.
