In early July, a meeting chaired by the President discussed an issue that had been troubling residents of the Sergeli and Yangihayot districts — the unpleasant odor emanating from the water treatment facility.

Responsible officials were tasked with installing modern filtering devices at the wastewater treatment facility by September 1 to eliminate the problem.

According to the Tashkent city administration, practical measures to address the odor have been implemented at the 'Salar' facilities. These facilities receive and treat wastewater from 7 districts of Tashkent, with a daily capacity of 900,000 cubic meters.

To reduce the unpleasant smell, modern filtering equipment worth 9.5 billion soums has been installed. 'The wastewater basins are hermetically sealed, and the air with the unpleasant odor passes through filters, where it is purified and neutralized,' the statement said.

Dononboy Kazybekov, chief technologist of JSC 'Toshkent shahar suv ta'minoti', said that the management of Tashkent's water supply system held negotiations with the Russian side, after which air purification equipment was delivered.

In the installation, air is drawn in by a fan and passes through 11.5 tons of a special material — catalytic sorbent. Under the influence of ultraviolet rays, ozonation and oxidation of pollutants occur.

The air then passes through 2.5 tons of activated carbon. After purification, the concentration of hydrogen sulfide at the outlet is zero, and the concentration of ammonia is also zero.

The equipment has been operating for more than 15 days. As a result, the unpleasant odor around the facilities has disappeared, as confirmed by residents of nearby areas.
