In March 2026, Uzbekistan produced 2.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas, a decrease of 1.2 billion cubic meters (30.8%) compared to the same month last year. Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov described the decline as "expected" and stated that the main task now is to stabilize production and maintain volumes.

According to him, amid the annual natural decline in production, Uzbekneftegaz, together with partners, is carrying out drilling operations, purchasing new equipment, conducting geological exploration, and preparing new fields. Cooperation with SOVAR and BP is aimed at discovering new fields in the Ustyurt region.

Speaking about which fields are experiencing the main decline, the minister noted that these are old fields. "The main decline occurs in Shurtan, that is, in the Bukhara-Khiva and Kashkadarya regions, at those old fields that, as we always say, are 85-90% depleted," Mirzamakhmudov said.
