Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. In September 2026, Samarkand will become the world chess capital, hosting the Congress of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), which will include elections for the organization's leadership.
The FIDE Congress is scheduled for September 20–27, 2026, in Samarkand. The event will feature elections for the President of the International Chess Federation, as well as the Deputy President, Vice President, and regional directors.
A separate meeting of the FIDE General Assembly is set for September 26–27.
The current FIDE President since 2018 is Arkady Dvorkovich, with Indian grandmaster Viswanathan Anand as his deputy.
Recall that last summer, FIDE awarded the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan the FIDE Outstanding Contribution Award 2025.
