Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz reports that officers from the State Security Service and customs authorities have thwarted an attempt to illegally traffic a large batch of narcotics. Two residents of Samarkand tried to transport more than five kilograms of opium.
The suspects were detained during a joint operation in the Bekabad district. They were caught while attempting to transport the drugs.
According to the investigation, the suspects were carrying over 5.1 kilograms of opium, which had previously been smuggled into the country from a neighboring state.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainees, and they have been placed in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
Law enforcement authorities emphasize that drug trafficking is one of the most dangerous forms of transnational crime. Citizens are urged to report any drug-related activities by calling the short number 1520. Confidentiality is guaranteed.
Earlier, about 20 kilograms of banned substances were found by special services in the Fergana region hidden inside truck tires.
