In the Andijan region, a corruption case involving an energy sector employee has been uncovered. The leading legal counsel of the Andijan branch of Energosavdo, a subsidiary of Territorial Electric Networks JSC, attempted to profit from a local entrepreneur's problems.

He demanded $5,000 from a representative of a limited liability company engaged in cheese production. In exchange, the employee promised to cancel material damage of 788.4 million soums, which had been assessed in an official report for illegal electricity use.

The criminal scheme was carried out in several stages. On May 1 of this year, the legal counsel received the first part of the demanded amount – $500. However, he failed to complete the plan.

During a joint operation by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the official was caught red-handed while receiving the remaining $4,500, which were seized as material evidence.

A criminal case has been opened against the leading legal counsel, and investigative actions are underway. Law enforcement agencies continue the investigation to clarify all details of the incident.
