Uzbekistan and China have expanded their air connectivity with the launch of a new direct flight between Tashkent and Guangzhou. The first aircraft has already landed at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, bringing the total number of weekly flights between the Uzbek capital and Guangdong Province to 12.

The new route links Tashkent with one of China's largest industrial and trade centers. The inaugural flight was greeted at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.

Deputy General Director of the airport, Qi Yaoming, noted that the opening of the new route is not only an expansion of air links between the two countries but also a modern continuation of the Great Silk Road.

According to him, the direct air service between Guangzhou and Tashkent is expected to boost trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian ties between China and Uzbekistan.

Flights on the new route will operate once a week, on Wednesdays. Earlier reports indicated that Uzbekistan plans to increase the number of flights to China.
