Uzbekistan's Competition Development Committee has uncovered violations in the pricing of paid medical services at healthcare facilities in the Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions. As a result of inspections, nearly 440 million soums unjustly collected from about 140,000 consumers will be refunded.

In the Syrdarya region, violations were found at the Gulistan Medical Cluster. In 2024, the institution miscalculated the indirect cost distribution coefficient for medical examination services, leading to overcharges of approximately 340 million soums from nearly 100,000 consumers across 110 types of paid services.

In the Jizzakh region, an inspection at a branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health revealed that from 2023 to 2025, incorrect pricing of paid services resulted in over 100 million soums being illegally collected from about 40,500 clients.

Special commissions have initiated cases against both institutions and issued mandatory orders to refund the money to consumers.

The Committee reminded that under Articles 6 and 21 of Uzbekistan's Law on Protection of Consumer Rights, service providers must provide timely, accurate, and clear information about services. It is also prohibited to impose additional paid services or charge for services not actually rendered.

Earlier, a similar situation was recorded in the Namangan region, where five district medical associations obtained nearly 300 million soums in unjustified income through overbilling and inflated service costs.
