Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. The share of Uzbekistan's population engaging in physical exercise rose to 70.3% last year, reaching the highest level in the past five years.
According to the National Statistics Committee, the percentage of people involved in sports has been increasing annually. In 2021, 60.9% of residents exercised; in 2022 – 62.3%; in 2023 – 63.7%; and in 2024 – 67.8%.
This growth is driven by the expansion of sports infrastructure. At an April meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that over 200 major sports facilities and about 4,000 private sports clubs have opened in recent years. The focus is now shifting from professional sports to daily activities in neighborhoods, schools, and families.
Earlier, Mirziyoyev ordered the development of mass sports. The effectiveness of this work is now measured not only by the number of participants but also by reductions in cardiovascular and diabetic diseases.
