A police inspector from the Andijan region has been taken into custody on suspicion of committing a crime against the sexual integrity of a minor, the Uzbek Prosecutor General's Office confirmed amid social media reports.
The investigation was launched by the Kurghantepa district prosecutor's office after a minor girl born in 2010 went missing on June 3 and did not return home. During the inquiry, it was discovered that the inspector, a social worker at the Andijan Regional Department of Internal Affairs' Center for Social and Legal Assistance to Minors, had taken the girl to an apartment building in Andijan and had sexual intercourse with her.
On June 4, a criminal case was opened against the police officer under Article 128, Part 3, Clause 'c' (sexual intercourse with a person under 16) of the Uzbek Criminal Code. The court ordered the suspect to be placed in custody as a preventive measure.
Earlier reports suggested that the suspect may be Bakhodir Sultonov, a well-known Andijan boxer and bronze medalist at the 2004 Olympics, who holds the rank of police major. The Kurghantepa district prosecutor's office is conducting a preliminary investigation, with oversight from the regional prosecutor's office to ensure legality and a final legal decision.
