Uzbek customs officials have thwarted an attempt to illegally import jewelry worth 85 million sums (approximately $7,000) across the Uzbek-Tajik border in the Tashkent region, Podrobno.uz reports.
According to the State Customs Committee, a citizen attempted to cross the border on foot. During inspection using scanning equipment, it was discovered that he had concealed the jewelry inside his clothing.
The total weight of the seized jewelry was 83.7 grams. Customs inspections and procedural measures are currently underway.
Earlier, several attempts to smuggle nearly half a kilogram of gold across Uzbekistan's borders were uncovered, with the total value of confiscated items exceeding half a billion sums.
