Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. The draft law "On Veterans" has been sent back for revision following criticism from deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan.

The document was reviewed in the second reading during a session of the lower house of parliament. The draft proposes to define the status of veterans, their categories, as well as the powers of ministries and agencies in this area.

According to the draft law, veteran status can be granted to citizens who have worked conscientiously and exemplarily for many years in a specific field, industry, or profession and have earned recognition from the state and society. The draft provides for social support measures, tax and pension benefits.

Specifically, these include free treatment in sanatorium and health resorts, compensation for housing and utility costs, free public transport, discounts on air and railway tickets, as well as priority access to government services. However, deputies raised several objections and proposed revising certain articles of the document.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan plans to legally enshrine benefits for veterans.
