In Samarkand region, poachers illegally caught fish using electric fishing rods, causing environmental damage exceeding 1.8 billion Uzbek soums. According to Podrobno.uz, the illegal fishing incidents were uncovered on May 30 during raids in the Nurabad district near the Kattakurgan reservoir.

The regional ecology department reported that in the Pulatchi mahalla, two individuals used a banned electric fishing rod to catch 40 fish, including grass carp, snakehead, silver carp, and carp. The environmental damage was estimated at nearly 1.4 billion soums.

On the same day, during a nighttime raid, inspectors identified two more violators who also used an electric rod, catching 12 fish such as grass carp, snakehead, and carp. The damage from their actions amounted to 424.4 million soums.

All collected materials have been handed over to law enforcement for legal assessment. Ecologists warned that the use of electric fishing rods severely harms aquatic ecosystems and can lead to mass fish mortality.

Earlier, it was reported that poachers in Syrdarya region caused over 733 million soums in damage. The violation was detected on the Central Mirzachul Canal passing through the Sardoba reservoir area.
