Uzbekistan has established separate criminal liability for drug-related offenses. The relevant law (No. URU-1151) was adopted on June 11, the Ministry of Justice reported.

According to amendments to the Criminal Code, organizing an illegal drug laboratory for the production, preparation, or processing of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogs is punishable by 5 to 10 years of imprisonment. Previously, this was not a separate offense.

Organizing or maintaining a den for the consumption or distribution of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogs, or potent substances is punishable by 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.

Additionally, sponsoring the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogs, or potent substances is punishable by 5 to 8 years of imprisonment. This is a new separate offense.

Illegally obtaining potent or poisonous substances through theft or fraud is punishable by up to 3 years of correctional labor, 2 to 5 years of restriction of liberty, or up to 5 years of imprisonment. This is also a new norm.

It was previously announced on June 10 during a presentation to the president that a new chapter titled "Crimes against Public Health and the Nation's Gene Pool" would be introduced into the Criminal Code, as also stipulated in a presidential decree dated November 7, 2025.
