In the Khazarasp district of Khorezm region, a deputy governor of a local mahalla was arrested while receiving $1,400 in exchange for promising to enroll a citizen in a university. This was reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office.

According to the statement, the operation was conducted jointly by the regional department and other law enforcement agencies.

The deputy governor of the 'Ziyolilar' mahalla, identified as I.R., promised citizen D.R. admission to Tashkent University of Humanities and was caught red-handed with the $1,400 bribe.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168 (Fraud) and Article 211 (Bribery) through Article 28 (Types of accomplices) of the Criminal Code.

Investigative actions are currently underway.

Earlier, in Namangan, a head of a department of the regional education authority was detained for accepting an $8,500 bribe to secure a school principal position.
