Two cases of corruption among employees of energy supply enterprises have been uncovered in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan. Engineers demanded large sums for connecting to power grids and writing off electricity debts, but were caught red-handed while receiving bribes.

In the first case, an engineer from the Fergana district electricity supply enterprise, abusing his official position, demanded 100 million soums from a citizen. In exchange, he promised to run an electrical network to a construction materials production workshop, install and connect a meter, and arrange the necessary permits through acquaintances.

During a special operation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS) of the Fergana region together with other law enforcement agencies, the previously convicted engineer was arrested red-handed while receiving the money.

In the second episode, an engineer from the Sharaf-Rashidov district electricity supply enterprise offered a farm to "resolve" a debt of 122 million soums for electricity. For this, he demanded 50 million soums and had already received 10 million. During an operational measure, he was arrested while receiving the remaining 40 million soums.

Criminal cases have been initiated for both incidents, and investigations are underway. Law enforcement authorities urge citizens to report such violations via the short number 1520, with confidentiality guaranteed.

Earlier, Uzbek officials were taken to a pre-trial detention center to show the fate of corrupt individuals.
