Uzbekistan and the United States have agreed to speed up negotiations on a bilateral trade and investment agreement, according to Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, following a meeting in Tashkent with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer.
Mirziyoyeva stated that the deal is expected to be signed in the near future. “I am glad to meet with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer in Tashkent. Over the past year, we have done substantial work, and our relations have reached a new level,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
The Office of the US Trade Representative reported that during Greer’s visit to Uzbekistan, the sides agreed on an “initial package” of trade commitments aimed at strengthening bilateral economic and investment ties, as well as ensuring mutual benefit, balance, and stability in trade.
Washington noted that Uzbekistan committed to eliminating or reducing tariffs on a wide range of US industrial goods and agricultural products. In turn, the US intends to “positively consider” tariff measures on industrial and agricultural goods from Uzbekistan, to the extent appropriate and consistent with US law.
The parties also agreed to strengthen investment cooperation, explore mechanisms to promote and encourage bilateral investments, and accelerate negotiations on a mutual trade and investment agreement.
According to the US Trade Representative’s office, these agreements build on the outcomes of meetings between Presidents Donald Trump and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2025 and reaffirm both countries’ commitment to strengthening strategic and economic partnership.
The office earlier recalled that the presidents of Uzbekistan and the US announced $32 billion in commercial deals, including an $8.5 billion agreement with Boeing, as well as purchases and investments in strategic sectors such as critical minerals, mining, energy, finance, and information technology.
“The United States strongly supports Uzbekistan’s accession process to the World Trade Organization and recognizes the significant progress the country has made to date. The US and Uzbekistan will formally record this ‘initial package’ in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev previously stated that Uzbekistan plans to increase bilateral trade with the US to $5 billion. By the end of 2025, the figure exceeded $1 billion.
In December 2024, Uzbekistan and the US signed a protocol concluding bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan’s WTO accession. The talks lasted 14 months. At a meeting with the president in May, Uzbekistan’s intention to join the WTO in 2026 was reaffirmed. As of early this year, Uzbekistan had completed negotiations with 33 of the 34 WTO members.
