A man has been arrested in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan for allegedly defrauding a citizen by promising to secure him the position of district governor (hokim) of Uchkurgan district.

According to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office, the suspect, identified as S.A., introduced himself as an assistant to a judge of the arbitration court and gained the trust of the victim, I.D., claiming he could use his high-ranking connections to arrange the appointment.

The suspect reportedly demanded $210,000 for his services. He was apprehended red-handed while receiving $100,000 of the agreed amount.

A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 25, 168 (Fraud) and 28, 211 (Giving a bribe) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are currently underway.

Authorities urge citizens to be cautious of such fraudulent schemes and to contact official bodies directly for any matters related to employment or appointments.
