Uzbekistan's authorities aim to ensure permanent access to drinking water for 90% of the country's population by 2030, Podrobno.uz correspondent reported.
According to a meeting of the Expert Council in Tashkent, currently about 83% of residents have access to drinking water. To achieve this level, about $2 billion in investments have already been directed to the sector.
By 2030, at least an additional $1.3 billion is planned to be attracted for the development of drinking water supply.
Special attention is paid to reducing the burden on water resources. While in 2017 modern technologies were used on only 0.4% of irrigated land, by 2026 this figure reached 60%. Thanks to canal concreting, digitalization, and the introduction of advanced technologies, about 11 billion cubic meters of water are saved annually.
Water problems affect ecology, energy, industry, agriculture, and regional cooperation. Only through joint work of relevant bodies can a sustainable water future be ensured.
Earlier, plans to provide the population with water were announced in the revised draft of the Uzbekistan–2030 strategy.
