On July 1, the Uzbekistan national football team was given a grand welcome at Tashkent International Airport upon returning from the World Cup. Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov personally greeted the players and delivered a speech.

Aripov praised the team's efforts against strong opponents: "You fought bravely against Portugal (5th in FIFA rankings), Colombia (13th), and Congo. Every attack, defense, shot, and moment of struggle gave our people excitement, hope, and pride."

The Prime Minister also addressed online criticism, urging the players to forgive so-called 'couch experts': "Dear footballers, through your popularity, many unsuccessful athletes, pseudo-specialists, and 'couch experts' are trying to get cheap PR and likes by expressing negative opinions. Forgive them."

Uzbekistan lost all three group matches: 1-3 to Colombia, 0-5 to Portugal, and 1-3 to DR Congo, finishing last in the group. Goals were scored by Abbosbek Fayzullayev and Eldor Shomurodov. Overall, the team ranked 46th out of 48 teams.
