Uzbekistan's population remains young, but the share of elderly and long-lived individuals is gradually increasing. According to preliminary results of the population and agriculture census, nearly 169,000 people in Uzbekistan have reached the age of 85 and older.
The age structure shows that the largest share of the population falls into children and working-age groups. In particular, the most numerous group is children under 4 years old, with over 4.6 million such residents. Overall, youth and working-age categories form the bulk of the country's population.
At the same time, a significant portion of the population consists of middle-aged and elderly people. The number of residents aged 60–64 exceeds 1.4 million, while the 65–69 age group has over 1.1 million. Citizens aged 70–74 number about 669,000, those 75–79 over 342,000, and 80–84 over 130,000.
Earlier, the National Statistics Committee announced preliminary results of the first universal population and agriculture census in modern Uzbekistan. According to the data, the country's population reached 39,047,321, nearly double the 1989 census figure.
