Modernization plans for road and transport infrastructure in Surkhandarya region have been announced. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev disclosed this at a meeting on February 27.
According to him, a project to convert a 111-kilometer section of the Boysun-Denau road to cement-concrete pavement began two years ago with $183 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank. This road will double cargo volume and reduce transport time from 3 to 1.5 hours.
The president also noted that the 178-kilometer highway connecting Uzbekistan with Afghanistan and Tajikistan has not undergone major repairs for nearly 30 years. Officials were instructed to start construction work within three months.
The meeting also focused on railway transport. Currently, passenger trains on the Tashkent-Termez route take over 14 hours. An agreement has been reached with Korean partners to supply modern high-speed trains (reportedly Hyundai Rotem).
Instructions were given to start a project to adapt the Toshguzar-Boysun-Kumkurgan section for high-speed trains and begin electrification of the 103-kilometer Kumkurgan-Kudukli railway.
Additionally, new flights on the Termez-Istanbul and Termez-Dubai routes have been scheduled.
According to the head of state, 100,000 people daily travel from Shurchi, Denau, Sariosiyo, Sherobod, and Boysun to the regional center by car. The 125 buses being delivered to Surkhandarya are to be prioritized for these routes.
By the end of the year, a project to provide centralized drinking water to 56,000 residents of Muzrabot will be completed. A project to bring sewage systems to the centers of Muzrabot, Oltinsoy, Angor, Qiziriq, and Boysun will commence.
