A 47-year-old woman in the Chiroqchi district of the Qashqadaryo region has been sentenced to five years in prison for systematically subjecting her daughter-in-law to physical and psychological abuse over several years, ultimately driving her to suicide. The verdict was reported by the “Millar” program, citing court documents.

According to the court, the abuse occurred from 2022 to October 2025. The mother-in-law regularly insulted, beat, and expelled the daughter-in-law from the house, while also exerting constant psychological pressure. The investigation revealed that she accused the daughter-in-law of being unable to manage household chores, restricted her from meeting her parents, and prevented her from using a phone.

In some instances, the mother-in-law dragged the daughter-in-law by her hair through the street, struck her on the face and other body parts, causing physical injuries. On October 2, 2025, unable to endure the prolonged torment, the daughter-in-law hanged herself in a cattle shed in the yard.

The Chiroqchi district criminal court found the mother-in-law guilty under Article 103, Part 2, Clause 'a' of the Uzbek Criminal Code (driving a dependent person to suicide). The court also applied Article 57 (imposition of a lighter sentence), resulting in a five-year prison term.

Earlier, in Bekabad, Tashkent region, a daughter-in-law who stabbed her mother-in-law 14 times to death was sentenced to 10 years. The conflict reportedly arose over a cradle ceremony (beshik to‘yi).
