President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on the comprehensive development of Surkhandarya region. The head of state emphasized that developing the region will strengthen the southern pillar of New Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, the president noted that Surkhandarya is not only an area with beautiful nature but also a land of proud people with strong spirit and high enthusiasm.
It was reported that over the past period, more than 8,000 projects worth $5 billion have been implemented in the region. Additional investment and trade agreements worth $10 billion have been reached with countries such as China, the United States, Russia, India, Austria, and Hungary.
Significant changes have also occurred in the social sphere: over the past nine years, preschool education coverage has increased from 28% to 68%, 23 new schools have been built and 448 renovated, resulting in 102,000 additional student places.
In housing construction, 688 apartment buildings have been erected, with 32,000 families moving into new apartments. "New Uzbekistan" residential complexes have been established in Angor, Boysun, Jarqo'rg'on, Sariosiyo, and Termiz districts.
It was also noted that under the "Use of Water from the Tupalang Reservoir" project, drinking water supply has been improved for 563,000 residents of Termiz city and 10 districts.
