Uzbekistan is set to broaden its transport benefits system, offering free or discounted travel to certain categories of citizens. Starting October 1, 2026, war veterans, disabled individuals, and those who participated in the cleanup of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster will be entitled to free tickets or a 50% discount on air, rail, and intercity bus services.
To obtain a concessionary ticket, passengers will only need to present an identity document, simplifying the process and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
From January 1, 2027, the government plans to enable the purchase of discounted tickets through the mobile application 'Baraka', allowing beneficiaries to book their travel remotely and conveniently.
This initiative follows the earlier announcement of abolishing paper vouchers for subsidized travel, marking a shift towards digital solutions in the country's public transport system. The reforms aim to enhance accessibility and efficiency for vulnerable groups.
