In the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, officers of the State Security Service (SGB) have thwarted an attempt to sell 5.6 kilograms of hashish, which had been smuggled from Kyrgyzstan. A 33-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.

The operation was carried out by the SGB jointly with regional customs and internal affairs departments. The suspect had retrieved the narcotics from a hidden cache and was driving a Cobalt car towards Fergana city. When officers attempted to stop him, he disobeyed their orders, threw a bag out of the car, and tried to flee.

The bag contained five briquettes of a substance resembling hashish, with a total weight of 5.6 kilograms. According to the authorities, the drugs had been smuggled from Kyrgyzstan and placed in the cache beforehand.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under Part 2 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code. He has been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing to identify possible accomplices.

Earlier, at the Navoi border customs post in the Tashkent region, an attempt to illegally export $240,000 from Uzbekistan was prevented. Two female citizens of a neighboring country tried to conceal the currency from customs control by strapping $80,000 and $160,000 respectively to their legs with tape.
