Gas production has commenced at the new Patron gas condensate field in the Mirishkor district of the Kashkadarya region, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy. The exploration well No. 1 was connected to the gas pipeline and put into operation on September 2 at 06:00.
Earlier, some social media channels spread reports of an alleged gas explosion in the Karshi district of Kashkadarya. The Ministry of Energy stated that this information is completely false, explaining that the incident shown in the video was actually the testing and commissioning process of the exploration well at the new Patron field.
Drilling of well No. 1 at the Patron field began based on 3D seismic surveys conducted by China's BGP company in 2025. After completion of drilling and testing of intervals between 3296 and 3339 meters, commercial quantities of natural gas were obtained. The initial production rate is 500,000 cubic meters per day.
According to the ministry, the field is relatively small, with estimated reserves of about 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Specialists from UzLITIneftegaz JSC are currently conducting gas-dynamic and gas-condensate studies to determine actual production indicators.
The ministry emphasized that the fiery process shown in the video was not an explosion or accident. Flaring gas through a special device during well testing is a standard technological procedure aimed at determining the well's productivity, pressure, and operating parameters. The well was launched with the participation of the militarized unit of the oil and gas sector and UzLITIneftegaz specialists, in strict compliance with industrial, fire, labor, and environmental safety requirements.
All necessary organizational and technical measures were carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The Ministry of Energy urged social media administrators not to spread false and unsubstantiated information without verifying facts. It warned that disseminating misleading information could lead to legal liability and called on the public to rely only on official sources.
Natural gas and gas condensate production in Uzbekistan continues to decline. According to the State Statistics Committee, in January-July 2026, natural gas production amounted to 21.6 billion cubic meters, down approximately 15% or 3.8 billion cubic meters compared to the same period in 2025 (about 25.4 billion cubic meters). In July, about 3.3 billion cubic meters were produced, 7.9% less than in July last year (3.58 billion cubic meters), but 32% more than in June, when output fell to 2.5 billion cubic meters.
