Uzbekistan has concluded an extensive review of its flagship "Initiative Budget" program, summarizing the outcomes across 11 voting seasons. Over the course of the project, citizen-driven initiatives saw 24,846 proposals win funding, totaling an impressive 25.6 trillion UZS allocated directly toward local community improvements.
Between 2021 and 2026, infrastructural and development projects were financed across 7,484 mahallas nationwide. In 2026 alone, 3,667 neighborhoods secured winning bids, with 681 mahallas winning support for the first time in the program's history. Furthermore, 446 supported initiatives were prioritized in regions facing challenging socio-economic conditions.
A substantial portion of the capital was channeled into grassroots social infrastructure and public utilities. Under the initiative, 4,414 public schools were renovated, and 3,145 educational facilities received modern educational equipment. Transportation networks also saw widespread upgrades, resulting in the repair of 17,513 kilometers of local internal roads, while the healthcare sector benefited from the renovation of 1,276 medical centers and the re-equipment of 1,391 clinics.
The participatory framework also expanded through diversified funding models in 2026, wherein 495 community initiatives succeeded through legislative proposals. Additionally, 152 projects were selected under co-financing partnership models, with local residents contributing 9.8 billion UZS of their own funds to bring community improvements to fruition.
