Tashkent city authorities have announced plans to construct 100 modern public restrooms across central avenues, tourist hubs, public squares, and high-traffic pedestrian areas. The initiative was formalized through a decree signed by the khokim of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov, as part of an effort to upgrade urban amenities.
The facilities are scheduled to be deployed in 2026 under a streamlined public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism. This model aims to encourage private sector participation in the maintenance and operation of the facilities while reducing municipal upkeep burdens and enhancing sanitary standards for residents and visitors.
As part of the preliminary phase, 140.4 million Uzbek sums will be allocated to conduct essential topographic surveys required to finalize the exact coordinates for the 100 sites. A proposal to approve these funds will be submitted to the supervisory board of Tashkent Invest Company JSC.
Funding for the preparatory engineering work will be sourced from the Tashkent Development Fund, managed under the city administration. The survey and spatial planning duties have been assigned to the specialized design and scientific research institute for engineering surveys, geoinformatics, and urban planning cadastres.
Oversight ensuring the strict and targeted expenditure of the capital will be managed by Tashkent Invest Company JSC. Meanwhile, the Tashkent Treasury Department will oversee the formal disbursement procedures in compliance with standard budgetary regulations.
