Law enforcement authorities in the Asaka district of the Andijan region have intercepted a significant counterfeiting operation. A suspect attempting to sell fake banknotes with a nominal value of 297 million soms to a conditional buyer for 148 million soms was apprehended red-handed by security operatives.
According to reports from the State Security Service, the joint operation was carried out by officers from the Tashkent city and Andijan regional departments. The detainee, a 1987-born citizen with a prior criminal record for fraud, was caught transferring counterfeit 100,000 and 200,000 som bills.
During a subsequent search of the suspect's residence, authorities uncovered and seized various equipment utilized for producing the forged currency. The confiscated items included a personal computer, an Epson printer, paper-cutting tools, and semi-finished 50,000 and 100,000 som banknotes printed on special A4-sized paper, all of which were documented in accordance with procedural norms.
The Tashkent city department of the State Security Service has initiated a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code against the suspect and potential accomplices. Ongoing investigative actions and operational measures are currently underway to uncover the full scope of the criminal network and identify any additional co-conspirators.
