The President of Uzbekistan has reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction with the sluggish pace of construction work at the Shirin residential district in Samarkand. Although the development was launched simultaneously with the ambitious New Tashkent project, the area has allegedly failed to achieve the expected progress over the elapsed period. *According to the head of state, entrepreneurs were allocated a mere 19 hectares, while the remaining vast expanses remain undeveloped. Furthermore, critical infrastructure targets have apparently not been met. Specifically, a bridge intended to connect the district with downtown Samarkand was scheduled for launch before September 1, but construction remains unfinished.
Additionally, the relocation of the regional khokimiyat and departmental buildings has reportedly not even begun. Officials claim that the lack of proactive measures by state institutions negatively influences the decisions of investors who might otherwise consider funding the district's development.
To attract investors and accelerate construction, the privileges and incentives previously established for New Tashkent will purportedly be extended to the Shirin district as well. Authorities must present concrete projects and offer favorable implementation conditions to prospective investors.
