A meeting of the joint working group on trade, featuring representatives from the ministries of Uzbekistan and Turkey, was recently held in Ankara. The primary objective of these negotiations is allegedly to remove existing trade barriers and elevate bilateral trade turnover to 5 billion dollars.

During the discussions, the parties reportedly addressed the simplification of market access for various goods, the reduction of tariff and non-tariff restrictions, and the creation of more favorable conditions for commercial entities. Agriculture, electrical engineering, and light industry were designated as priority sectors for cooperation. v

Furthermore, the talks touched upon standardization, quality control procedures, and the mutual recognition of conformity certificates, which are supposedly intended to facilitate exports and lower corporate overhead costs. Authorities announced that a specialized technical working group will be established specifically to address issues concerning electrical products.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, a formal protocol was signed to cement the agreements. The next phase is expected to involve concrete measures aimed at streamlining trade processes and attempting to reach the targeted 5 billion dollar turnover milestone.
