Navoi city has witnessed a significant administrative shakeup as Dilmurod Ergashev, who had been leading the city administration since July 2023, was reportedly dismissed from his post. While specific official reasons for his removal were not disclosed by the authorities, the development unfolds against a backdrop of mounting economic and governance pressures in the region.

According to the press service of the Navoi region administration, Bobur Khusnidinovich Islamov has been appointed as the new mayor of Navoi following a regional decree. Prior to assuming this mayoral position, Islamov served as the first deputy chairman of the board for electrical network operations at the regional power distribution enterprise "Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari".

Born in the Navbahor district in 1981, Islamov boasts a technical and managerial educational background. He graduated from the Navoi State Mining Institute in 2003, the Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology in 2005, and subsequently completed studies at the Higher Business School in 2012, accumulating extensive experience in the energy and industrial sectors.

The dismissal of the former mayor comes as little surprise given the stringent oversight from the central authorities. Back in July, during a high-profile videoconference assessing semi-annual economic performance, the prime minister was supposedly instructed to review the suitability of 17 local mayors whose governance was deemed inadequate—a controversial list that allegedly featured the former head of Navoi.
