Law enforcement authorities in the Uchtepa district of Tashkent have apprehended a 29-year-old repeat offender suspected of orchestrating a massive cyber-theft scheme. The suspect allegedly drained nearly two billion soums from the bank accounts of 19 different business entities by posing as a legitimate financial institution operator, according to preliminary investigative findings.

Representatives from the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that the suspect systematically deceived victims by presenting himself as a technical support specialist capable of fixing glitches in money transfer applications. Business owners, facing operational difficulties with digital transactions, reached out to him directly through the Telegram messenger for assistance.

Capitalizing on the victims' reliance on digital tools, the suspect allegedly deployed specialized software to illicitly siphon funds from corporate accounts once he gained their trust. Authorities have initiated a formal criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and the suspect remains in custody while investigations proceed.
