President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a dedicated meeting on October 22 focusing on the socio-economic development of the Kashkadarya region, announcing major initiatives aimed at modernizing regional road infrastructure and upgrading municipal water supplies. Authorities plan to launch the reconstruction of a 100-kilometer section of the A-380 highway passing through the region, with the involvement of the Asian Development Bank.
The estimated cost of this ambitious highway project stands at approximately $350 million. Additionally, plans include extending the Karshi bypass road by 5.5 kilometers to seamlessly connect with the main corridor. The leadership has instructed responsible agencies to finalize the feasibility studies by the end of 2026 and initiate construction works in January 2027.
The meeting also addressed severe traffic congestion issues at railway crossings along the Karshi-Pamuk and Guzar-Beyneu routes. To mitigate these bottlenecks, authorities intend to construct two modern overpasses with a total value of 250 billion soms. These infrastructure upgrades aim to enhance regional connectivity and traffic safety. *
Furthermore, the provision of clean drinking water was highlighted as one of the most pressing challenges facing the Kashkadarya region. Backed by substantial funding allocations for 2026, officials are tasked with rapidly expanding water and sewage networks. Additional multi-million dollar international financing is slated for large-scale supply projects designed to benefit hundreds of thousands of local residents.
