President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is currently chairing a high-level meeting dedicated to the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Qashqadaryo region. During the opening remarks, the head of state stressed that providing the local population with reliable access to clean drinking water remains one of the most pressing and unresolved challenges in the area.
To tackle this critical issue directly, the president has issued strict instructions to complete the construction of 747 kilometers of water supply and sewage networks, along with 43 infrastructure facilities, within a tight two-month timeframe. Funding amounting to 1 trillion soms has been allocated for these urgent works. Consequently, approximately 200,000 residents are expected to gain access to safe drinking water upon completion.
Furthermore, authorities have allocated 100 billion soms specifically for laying water pipelines from the Gissarak reservoir to the city of Karshi, as well as the Kamashi, Guzar, and Karshi districts. This infrastructural push aims to alleviate severe water shortages across these agricultural and residential zones.
Additional tasks include securing $210 million in supplementary investments and ensuring the rigorous, high-quality execution of ongoing projects. Officials claim that this initiative will eventually supply clean drinking water to an additional 350,000 citizens in the region.
In addition to these measures, preparations are underway for the large-scale reconstruction of the Talimarjan — Mubarek water supply system to significantly improve living standards for 700,000 residents across the Nishan, Kasbi, Mirishkor, Mubarek, and Karshi districts. Responsible agencies have been ordered to finalize the project's feasibility study by April 1 and successfully attract $150 million for its implementation.
