Beginning in 2028, Uzbekistan will roll out a comprehensive nationwide screening initiative designed for the early detection of stomach, colorectal, prostate, and lung cancers. The government plans to allocate 700 billion UZS annually to sustain the healthcare campaign. The announcement was made by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during an extensive meeting with healthcare and pharmaceutical sector professionals.

The program will initially be piloted in the Samarkand region before expanding across all provinces of the country. Officials underscored that this new effort will run alongside existing screening protocols targeting diabetes, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disorders, female oncological conditions, and pediatric oncohematological diseases.

The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of a specialized program for early detection and rapid intervention in heart attacks and strokes, currently active in Tashkent and the Andijan, Fergana, Namangan, and Samarkand regions. Over the span of five months, mortality from these acute conditions dropped by 15%, with medical teams successfully intervening during the critical "golden hour" to save 855 patients from death or severe disability.

Next year, funding for the cardiovascular emergency initiative will rise to 280 billion UZS as its reach expands to every district and municipality nationwide. Additionally, authorities will broaden the guaranteed state healthcare package, boosting the list of free prescription medications to 73 items and diagnostic medical examinations to 36.

To honor exceptional dedication across the medical field, President Mirziyoyev also proposed establishing a new state award named after the historic polymath Ibn Sina (Avicenna). The distinction will be bestowed upon medical practitioners and scientists who make outstanding contributions to public health and pioneer innovative therapeutic techniques.
